Oxytocin is a naturally-occurring hormone produced by the pituitary glands in mammals. The protein is associated with good feelings, and is often called the “love hormone”. Pregnant women produce it at higher levels when they are approaching childbirth.

Sometimes the body may fail to produce enough levels of oxytocin, which is why you would then need this peptide.

Oxytocin –  Pharma Lab Global

Oxytocin is a naturally-occurring hormone produced by the pituitary glands in mammals. The protein is associated with good feelings, and is often called the “love hormone”. Pregnant women produce it at higher levels when they are approaching childbirth. It is said to help with bonding between mother and child. Falling in love also releases high levels of oxytocin in men and women.

Sometimes the body may fail to produce enough levels of oxytocin, which is why you might need medication.

Oxytocin in pregnancy and childbirth

Oxytocin helps to trigger uterine contractions during childbirth. It also stimulates the production of beta-endorphins during the painful process, calming down the brain and allowing it to coordinate the contractions. Medical oxytocin is sometimes administered to induce labour or to strengthen the contractions. The protein has also been found to be effective in controlling haemorrhage after childbirth, by sending contractions that help the uterus to expel the placenta with minimal blood loss.

Oxytocin helps to increase the flow of breast milk when nursing. Aside from helping to increase the social bond between mother and child, the hormone can alleviate the stress levels in the mother. It sends triggers to the brain that release a sense of calm and contentment.

Oxytocin prescriptions for men

Men are naturally inclined to produce lower oxytocin levels than women. Some studies show that the hormone tends to make them more social and generous. In a 2014 study, a journal article in the U.S. National Center for Biotechnology Information reported that scientists had found a link between the hormone and muscle regeneration. Studies are underway to find out the role it plays in fighting against osteoporosis and ischemia.

Some scientists believe that insufficient levels may be behind some mental health problems like autism and Asperger’s syndrome, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Studies are not yet conclusive on whether too much oxytocin can harm the body. However, extreme caution should be observed in certain medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, premature delivery, cervical cancer, and genital herpes. It is always wise to seek the guidance of a qualified health professional before you take and oxytocin prescription.

How to take oxytocin

Oral administration is one of the least favourable methods since the hormone might be destroyed during digestion. In the past, the drug was mainly administered using an adhesive attached to the cheek linings in a process known as buccal delivery. In pregnant women, oxytocin is usually given as a UV injection to stimulate muscle contractions in the uterus. Nasal sprays have been prescribed to increase breast milk production in nursing mothers.
